- How to get the Vimeo tokens
This procedure, which can be managed by Admins and Editors of the Community, is mandatory in order to generate the two tokens to upload and delete the video on your Vimeo account. The approval is completely governed by Vimeo.
Take some time to read carefully the Video Guidelines and Commercial Content Guidelines of Vimeo. Your account will be blocked and ALL your videos will become inaccessible if you upload to Vimeo a video that won’t adhere to the Video Guidelines and Commercial Content Guidelines: SelfCommunity shall not be liable in any way for that.
Follow the step-by-step guide below for the process necessary to generate a valid Vimeo account and the the two tokens for your Community.- Create a Vimeo account (https://vimeo.com/join) and verify your email address. If you already have a Vimeo account, please go to the next step.
- Upgrade your Vimeo account to Vimeo PRO (https://vimeo.com/settings/upgrade) or superior; your account can’t be Vimeo Basic or Plus; with Vimeo PRO you can hide your videos from vimeo.com, upload commercial videos, get a better support, get a better priority in video conversions and a lot of more features. If you already have a Vimeo PRO account or superior (eg Vimeo Business), please go to the next step.
- Change the privacy for your account (https://vimeo.com/settings/account/privacy); in the section “Private Mode” click the button “Enable private mode”. Activating private mode will keep your videos and activities out of vimeo.com
Enter your Vimeo password and click the button “Yes, go private”. - Change the upload default settings (https://vimeo.com/settings/videos/upload_defaults); in the section “Privacy – Who can watch your videos?” select “Hide from vimeo.com” and click the “Save” button.
- Now let’s start to create the two tokens. First you need to create a new app (https://developer.vimeo.com/apps/new); Fill in the form and click “Create App”. NOTE: "Fashionista" is just an example name.
- From the app page, under the section “Permissions”, you need to request the upload access. Click the link “Request Upload Access”.
- Fill in the form and click the button “Request Upload Access”. As said previously, take some time to read carefully the Video Guidelines and Commercial Content Guidelines. Your account will be blocked and ALL your videos will become inaccessible if you upload to Vimeo a video that won’t adhere to the Video Guidelines and Commercial Content Guidelines: SelfCommunity shall not be liable in any way for that.
- From the app page the “Upload Access” permission will change to: “Your upload request is being reviewed.”.
- After some hours/days you will receive an email from Vimeo: “Vimeo upload access approved!”
- Now you can generate your tokens! Go to your apps page (https://developer.vimeo.com/apps) and select the app that you created on step 5.
- Under the section “Permissions“ your “Upload Access” should be “Your app has access to upload to your own account.”
- Let’s create the upload token; under the section “Authentication” select “Authenticated (you)” and select the following “Scopes”:
● Public (required)
● Private
● Upload
Then click the button “Generate”. - Now under “Personal Access Tokens” you will see the generated token with the scope upload; copy the token and keep it in a safe place.
- Let’s create the delete token; under the section “Authentication” select “Authenticated (you)” and select the following “Scopes”:
● Public (required)
● Private
● Delete
Then click the button “Generate”. - Now under “Personal Access Tokens” you will see the generated token with the scope delete; copy the token and keep it in a safe place.
Now, access your SelfCommunity platform (https://make.selfcommunity.com) and go to “Advanced Settings” under “Content Settings”.
In the section “UPLOAD INTEGRATED VIDEO” paste the two Vimeo Access token generated (the token with scope upload and the token with scope delete), click the “SAVE” button and enable the feature.
